Title: control of labels in cGPSMapper
Post by: alawrence on April 29, 2013, 08:16:20 AM
I'm a little new to cGPSMapper so please excuse my ignorance beforehand. I have a shapefile containing the boundaries of various Mountain Pine Beetle infestation zones an area in northern Alberta has been divided into. I'm trying to make a single GPS mapsheets of all these zones and have exported the shapefile to KML and opened it in GPSMapEdit 2.0. In GPSMapEdit I have converted the lines to Polylines calling them a boundary and then exported using cGPSMapper. My problem is that the zone name labels don't seem to be remaining inside their individual zones. When zooming into the mapsheet on map source many of the labels are inside the incorrect zones. Is there something I am doing incorrectly or is there anyway to resolve this? Thanks!

Both cgpsmapper and GPSMapEdit support SHP directly, in case of cgpsmapper this is probably paid feature. GPSMapEdit has import function.

You should use polygons to get labels inside area. Labels for polyline are drawn along line.

For what you describe, you may want to keep the line features but either remove the labels or use a .typ editor to make them invisible. But you would then also create an invisible polygon with the .typ editor and use that to display the label. This also will display the label when you "mouse over" the polygon while browsing the map on the GPS.

There are several different ways to create .typ files that accomplish this. Have a look at typwiz: http://pinns.co.uk/osm/typwiz3.html

Another way is to use the online editor at http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi
