One of the maps I have been working with is Montana State on the gspfiledepot website.
Every time that I tried to unzip the file I would get errors. Looking back thru the forums,
a poster had the same problem last July. I had to eventually go to the Montana website itself (gpsmapsmontana.com) to get the file which unzipped just fine.

Boyd-I did use the documented way using Basecamp/Mapinstall, not Maosource.
I will give the many map single file gmapsupp a try. If I encounter problems,
I have the old individual files available on a different card.
Maybe  seeing only 2 map names (of the many) when trying to enable/disable a map thru setup is a sign of a problem.
Thanks for the feedback!

I went thru the process of downloading 10 maps to create 1 gmapsupp file.
When I put it into my etrex 20, and  try to select a map, I'm seeing (displayed) only 2
of the map names. I enabled both. I tried viewing some tracks in states other than
the states that were  displayed, and the map data for those states displayed OK. I thought  all the states on the gmapsupp file would display. And if only one displays because it is a single gmapsupp file, why am I seeing 2 map names that can be enabled/disabled?
Is that just the way it works???   Thanks!

General Discussion / Re: Basecamp Maps missing
January 30, 2020, 09:52:10 AM
I just figured out what happened. I moved my Garmin folder (where the map data is stored) to another another folder, thereby changing the path to the maps. Does anybody know what I would have to do to change Basecamp to look for the maps using the new path?  Thanks

General Discussion / Basecamp Maps missing

All my maps that I had in Basecamp are gone except for 1.    Any suggestions
on what I should do to get them back.  Is map data stored in the backups? Thanks

Thanks! You are a wealth of knowledge and so helpful!

Yes, maps from FileDepot. I am using Windows. I am thinking that I should recreate the SD card for my Garmin. Some of the maps that I have looked at are the same author but have newer dates. It sounds like I just "uninstall" the old maps using windows, which will remove it from Basecamp. Will the "uninstall" cleanup all the files that were originally installed. Then do all the new installs - then create the new card.  Sound about right?  Thanks!!

There are newer versions of maps available. To install the newer versions, what do I have to do? Do I have to delete all data from the old maps. Do I have to do any cleanup in Basecamp to get rid of the old maps, or just install the new maps?  Thanks!

93ToyTruck - I'm trying to figure this all out. I'm not seeing an uninstaller for Mapinstall 4.2.
So do I just delete the Mapinstall directory and run Mapinstall 4.0.4 installer (I also do not know where exactly to get the installer). Sorry, I am not too knowledgeable with all this stuff.
Thank you!

Red90 - I'm still playing around with this based on your last answer. When I do pull in an old (HCx) track into Mapsource, the date that I see is the DD-MMM-YY - so its this name that is imported and saved. I guess the question is then is there anyway to import/save the name that was actually used to save the track to the PC??

After playing with this a little more, I see that Basecamp handles the import name a little differently, depending on the GPS that was used. The import from the HCx will handle the date as described above (DD-MMM-YY), still dropping the text part of the name. The import from the etrex20 does keep the date portion OK, ie YYYY-MM-DD followed by a time stamp - still dropping the text portion of the name.  Although, I do not know if the date imported is a result of my upload and save to my computer, or directly from the GPS track itself. Two tracks are attached. The 2009 one is from the HCx, the 2014 from the extrex20.  Thanks!!

I recently went from a etrex hcx to etrex20. I was having probs uploading tracks to the computer via Mapsource. Contacted Garmin - they told me it was Mapsource, and that I had to switch to Basecamp. Installed Basecamp - now I'm trying to "import" all my old tracks that I have saved on my computer. All my saved tracks are of the format "yyyy-mm-dd-track name.gdb".  When I do the import into a "new list" with Basecamp, each track that is imported carries a name of "dd-mmm-yy", eg 04-NOV-12.  The description part of the old track name is being dropped and the date format is not good for keeping a chronological list. Is there anyway to keep the track name and change the date format, without copying one at a time, then renaming the imported track to the name format that I want?  Thanks

Thank you so much - the multiple .img approach sounds like the way to go - I didn't realize the device would handle it. Unless I hit other problems, I'm good  :)

This sounds logical - if I have both maps in a single file, am I able to disable just one of them? If so, how do I do that? I am relatively new to all of this.  Or does it require
that I have 2 separate cards/files, one for NV, one for AZ. Thanks!
