When I try to run gnis process, I click the All at once, and I get a Run Time Error '70' Permission denied.

Any thoughts?

Map Making Support / Generalize in GPSMapEdit
January 08, 2009, 06:47:36 PM
I tried using the Generalize feature under the Tools menu on GPS MapEdit.  I noticed on one of my quads it removed like 1E6 points and halved the file size.  Extactly what is it doing and does it affect the accuracy of my maps.

Thanks,
Sam

Map Making Support / Export Shapefile from PostGIS
December 13, 2008, 06:26:43 PM
I have compiled all the NHD info into PostgreSQL.  When I try to export the data to a shapefile, it starts fine, but when it starts dumping, an error message comes up that says pgsql2shp.exe has stopped working.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.  Any ideas?

Map Making Support / Installing PostgreSQL
December 10, 2008, 04:58:25 AM
I just got a new computer so I have to reinstall PostgreSQL.  I noticed the tutorial is different than the steps of the program.  Specifically, on the screen where you check Run as Service(?), there are lines for superuser name and password.  I did not see any mention of this in the tutorial.  Is there any chance of getting updated instructions for installing the service?

Second, I notice that the site that hosts PostgreSQL has an auto installer for the latest version.  It ends with -2 instead of -1.  Has anyone tried using it to install PostgreSQL, and how does it compare to the manual instructions in the tutorial?  Are there any changes that need to be made after it installs?

Thanks,
Tsnake

Map Making Support / error in water step
September 12, 2008, 04:29:06 PM
I type the command psql -d postgis -h localhost -U postgres -f nhd_area.sql  and I get a whole list of errors.  They read psql:nhd_area.sql:1749:  ERROR: current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction block.  The 1749 starts at 1 and eventually I get an abort program screen.

Please help.

Map Making Support / Question about postgreSQL
September 04, 2008, 04:59:17 PM
When I was settingup PostgreSQL, I had trouble figuring out if I was doing the right thing because the setup was not exactly like the tutorial.  Now when I start the service, I see 4 postgres.exe in the task manager process page.  Is this correct?  If not, how do I remove the extra programs?

Second, on the first screen for the setup, it asked for a user name.  I input one with a new password.  This created a new user under the documents and settings folder.  That user had a duplicate of all the data in my documents and settings folder I normally sign in under.  Was that what it was supposed to do?

Map Making Support / Data for DEM2TOPO
September 03, 2008, 09:54:01 AM
I have been downloading the dem data for Illinois.  I am downloading the GeoTIFF format to use with GPSMapEdit.  When I receive the zip file, it containes the .tif file plus .aux, .prj, .ftf all with the same number.  Plus there is a lot of files for METADATA.  Do I need any of these besides the .tif to get DEM2TOPO to run correctly?
