mpmn04,

I did a test and had the opposite happen, the map showed in basecamp, but not in mapsource???  I use C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps (you may have to unhide folder and create those sub folders) as my default location for gmap format of my maps and those of other mapmakers and I don't have issues.  Give that a go and see what happens.  My maps have been made and used/tested on a Win 10 machine and basecamp version is 4.71 fwiw

Thanks for reporting back!  That stuff at the end of the link is important, but I'm not web design smart enough to know why  :D

Do the same thing for this one , Eastern Canada/Maritimes if it's a problem.

Let us know what happens, thanks.

PS  IMHO, Having Firefox, even if it is the portable version and not your main browser is worth having around in this day and age for a variety of possible issues, this included.

Hi.  I saw your post so I thought I'd look into it.  My default browser is Firefox and I never have issues downloading.  I tried a couple maps, including the Central Prov topo and was successful with the mac version.  I then opened a chrome based browser and tried to load the same files (mac) and it went to the next screen and stalled, nothing.  What I did next, worked.  Right click and the "here" if it is stalled or just right click on this link https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/download.php?map_id=836&mac=yes and you should have a copy link to choose from.  Open a blank/new tab and paste the link into the address bar and hit enter and the download prompt should appear.  This isn't a map or files depot issue, but a browser issue/quirk.  Give this a try and let us know how it goes.

General Discussion / Australia and South East Asia
November 22, 2022, 07:59:23 AM
I've recently uploaded a new map and updated an older map.

Initially I was going to include Indonesia as part of the South East Asia Topo, but the map would anticipated to be to big to upload as a single map, and I'm trying to avoid the multi part map.  At some point in the future I will likely create a topo map for Indonesia.

About a year ago I created and uploaded the Topo Map of Australia, but I had to do it in two parts because is was too large as a single map to upload (over 2 GB)  I recently was working on an update and found the the large size of the original was due to a "typo".  This typo is related to the DEM (3d and shading).  I caught it on some other maps but not this one.  If some input values for the DEM are off it creates an unnecessarily large map.  I've corrected this and the map is more in line to what I'd expect it to be.  I used current OSM data and the map is named AU-AustraliaTopo, the previous maps were part 1 and 2.  I have requested deletion of those and would direct those interested in this map to https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/888

It looks like you downloaded one of my maps 8)  What you have done works, with the .img file as you have done it.  Forget cgpsmapper and mapset toolkit in this case.  What I have done, and other map makers have done is offer maps in the gmapi format which works with Mac and Windows.  You don't actually install it, what you do is:
Download the MAC version of the map, CA-CentralProvTopo, extract with your favorite zip extractor, and you should have are 2 folder, one topo and one routeable, that ends in gmapi.  Click on the one you want until you get to CA-CentralProvxxxx.gmap (if you see Product1, etc you've gone one too far).  Copy this to  C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps (you may have to unhide folder and create those sub folders).  You should now be able to open Basecamp (or even Mapsource) and the map will be in the drop down of available maps.

Let us know how it goes!

Map Making Support / Re: Name of map file on garmin GPS
October 11, 2022, 06:30:51 PM
It is nice to see non spam posts being made :)

I downloaded and used imgtool to see how many tiles were in the Norway map and using the map id # it looks to be 338 tiles give or take a few.  Gmaptool will definitely combine the maps but will run into problems if the map id's are the same for different nations maps, but I didn't dig that far yet.  Have you checked the osm on garmin wiki https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download they may have all the countries you're interested in, though from different map authors.  There is always old school, a different card for different mapsets.

GPSr Units / Re: Garmin GPS Map 60cx not seeing maps

I figured that if OP can or can't see his map on there gps using a nearly guaranteed to work method will know how to progress from there if needed.  Will see what happens if or when the OP reports back

Hi Gav,

I'll throw my 2 cents in.  I have and older and a newer etrex.  The older is a single map set and the newer, multi map set.  Dig around for a 4GB or less micro card, or format in fat32 a larger card.  Shrink it using 3rd party software so you have less than 4 gigs, say 3.95 of usable space, the remainder unallocated.  Now again create the Garmin folder and copy what ever map (img) you have renamed to gmapsupp, as long as it is less that the 3.95 gigs.  Power up/power cycle gps and see if your desired map appears

I've been asked this on my new maps thread and pm'ed by users, a couple people who bothered to report back had this succeed.  Please report back!

Glad you got it working.
I still have about 10 old micro sd's, some of which are 1 or 2 gb in size for an old single map etrex.  It may be hard to find anything less than 8gb new these days but 1,2 and 4's can be found on ebay.  If you get additional cards, you may need 3rd party software to resize the sd card to 4gb or less.  4> formatted fat 32, the remainder unused/unformatted.  I believe that the gps will not even try to read the contents if it is over 4gb on older gps's in addition to the Garmin/gmapsupp.img as you found out

Hi

The "Windows" version is the .img file and can be directly copied or installed to the Garmin folder on your GPS (on older, single mapset devices mapname may need to be renamed gmapsupp.img), or copied to Orux/mapfiles folder.  Orux is available on the Google Play Store or for free at the authors website, https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/more/downloads. To view in Basecamp on Windows use the "Mac" version, after extracting and opening to mapaname.gmap, mapset can be placed in the Windows C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps folder (may need to un-hide and create)  or installed to Mac using it's install process.

or follow this

https://www.javawa.nl/virtualdevice.html  in this case you can use the "windows" or the .img

forget cgpsmapper and mapset tool kit

The typ file is in both the gmap and img file on all my maps, user can change many visual elements with typviewer or typewiz

LongRide,

It is fairly simple, though there is a specific process to follow.  It looks like you are interested in the CA-WestProvTopo.  I'm going to assume you are using Windows.  I'm not sure what version you downloaded already, but you you need to download the MAC version.  Yes, it is zipped but it is in standard zip format not 7z, as that's an allowed format to upload.  With whatever tool you use unzip that file and you should have a folder.  In that folder it is named CA-WestProvTopo you should have two folders inside that named, WestProvTopo and WestProvRouteable, both of these will end in .gmapi  Depending on your archive utility you will need to open that folder you desire one or two times until the end is just gmap.  (If you see Product1, etc you've gone too far and back up one step).

Go to C\ProgramData and make sure show hidden items is enabled.  You may see a folder named Garmin with a folder within named Maps, if not create them and you should end up with C\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps   Copy the folder ending in gmap to the Maps folder, now open Basecamp and this map should now be in your drop down on the toolbar and select it.

Now transferring to you GPS.  Since you are not necessarily interested in the whole mapset I suggest your install Garmin Mapsource https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209). if you don't already have it.  I find it easier than basecamp to select smaller areas to install to the gps, not just my maps but also Garmins own maps or any other compatible maps for that matter.  Hope this helps!

I don't want to sound insulting but will assume we're starting from scratch as it's come up on this thread, pm and other posts on the forums since day one.  In the case of my maps it's more insert that install

-Download the windows version from the link below.  When unzipped, you should have a file name CA-TerritoriesTopo.img
-Get a micro sd card, 16 or 32gb should be fine
-format card in fat 32
-Create folder on card and name it "Garmin" without quotes
-Copy CA-TerritoriesTopo.img to the Garmin folder on the sd
-May need to power cycle, go to maps setting to enable

The longer way
-go to link and download the mac version, extract and open until you're at CA-TerritoriesTopo.gmap
-install garmin basecamp, if mac I think you also need a map install program as well
-In windows, go to C\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps(may need to show hidden) if not present create a folder Garmin and within that create a folder Maps
-copy CA-TerritoriesTopo.gmap into the Maps folder, open basecamp and it should be in the drop down for maps, from there you can plug the gps in to your computer and send the maps to gps

I believe for mac, extract, click on gmapi and it will "install" or place where it needs to go

Let us know how it goes,  out of curiosity what is the something for the Yukon
