Out of curiosity have you tried using a different, fat32 formatted card with the Garmin>Maps folder setup

I'm curious if this  Hawaii the "Windows" version if you copy the .img to the Garmin/Maps folder, copy directly if you can and it is small.  I "created" my maps to be as universal as possible.

As far as USGS maps, Orux (Android only) will display geopdf's that you can get from the usfs and usgs national map, and maybe a few other places.

I'm fairly new, the past 4-5 years, to map making.  There are a fair amount of downloads, so reported problems have usually been solved.  I'm curious to how this turns out

You must of downloaded the Central Prov, the previous update I did had a routable and a topo versions, but my current updates are topo only, and I was intending to upload this evening.

The Windows version is actually intended for your gps unit.  Basecamp or Mapsourse won't open them, though gpx see and Fancy Route will they don't appear as intended.  For viewing in BC or MS download the Mac version and follow these instructions which I wrote for another user:

It is fairly simple, though there is a specific process to follow.  It looks like you are interested in the mapname.  I'm going to assume you are using Windows.  I'm not sure what version you downloaded already, but you you need to download the MAC version.  Yes, it is zipped but it is in standard zip format not 7z, as that's an allowed format to upload.  With whatever tool you use unzip that file and you should have a folder.  In that folder it is named mapname you should have one folder inside that named, mapname   these will end in .gmapi  Depending on your archive utility you will need to open that folder you desire one or two times until the end is just gmap.  (If you see Product1, etc you've gone too far and back up one step).

Go to C\ProgramData and make sure show hidden items is enabled.  You may see a folder named Garmin with a folder within named Maps, if not create them and you should end up with C\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps   Copy the folder ending in gmap to the Maps folder, now open Basecamp and this map should now be in your drop down on the toolbar and select it.

Awhile back I was looking at one of my maps in Basecamp.  I was seeing extra lanes on the entirety of a freeway!  I wasn't seeing it on the GPS or Orux, nor Mapsource.  It only duplicates "motorways" in OSM speak essentially freeways, no other roads.  It turned out that one of the style sheets was producing this so I omitted it from processing as it is for routing, which my topo maps don't have. 

I'm going to begin uploading some of the re-processed maps with updated data.  I've made some minor changes to my workflow to save a lot of time in the processing of my maps.  For the time being I am only going to be uploading topo maps, I had done an update or two of North America maps with routing, but I'm going to pause that for now.

Essentially cgpsmapper was for creating maps and mapsettoolkit to put on your gpsunit. So they probably won't help at all.

You can head over to one of my maps, which is current at https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/828/ Washington is there along with Oregon, California and Nevada.  Several of the Washington maps here are individual and others part of the region, some are really old an/or dead links.  You can also head over to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download and maybe find what you are looking for.  At one time or another I've looked at most every map here and their.  I have some bias on my maps but you have some options.

Also, why not download the "Windows" version of the map you want, extract and copy the *.img to the Garmin folder on your SD card on your 30x

Not sure what directions you are referring to in the previous posts, but all my Mac version maps have a *.gmap. Once you have extracted the zip file you will have a *.gmapi folder (if Windows).  Depending on which extractor you used, you may need to open/left click one, maybe two times to open to reach the *.gmap folder.  If you see Product 1 you've gone too far and back up one.  Hope this helps.

I might be able to help  .  I think something may be wrong with the installer as when I extracted it I didn't find a gmapsupp.img.  That could maybe be fixed with gmap tool, but I have it and can see this map in basecamp please follow...

Go back to the homepage and download the MAC version.  You will also need and advanced extractor like 7zip or pzip, both free.
-Find what you downloaded and it will end in .tgz, right click and extract to mntopo11.tar, again right click extract and you should end up with a folder mntopo11.gmapi, now left click once to open that folder and you should end up with mntopo11.gmap (no i).  If you made it this far we are ready for the next step, if not, start over.

Go to C:\ProgramData, you should have a folder named Garmin, (map need to show hidden folders) if not right click and create folder and name Garmin.  Open the Garmin folder and create a folder and name it Maps.  we now should have C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps, if so we are ready for the final step.  Copy the mntopo11.gmap that you extracted to previously into the Maps folder you should have your map now available in Basecamp and if you choose to "install" to your gps unit go for it.

This is my preferred way for the maps I offer as Mac versions can be used on both Windows and Macs.  It may look slightly complicated but it took less than 90 seconds from download to viewing the Minnesota map.

I've recently uploaded updated maps for Canada and Mexico.  I'm beginning to process US maps now so maybe later in the week they will start rolling out.  There won't be any significant changes to the maps, primarily updated data and minor/unnoticeable tweaks.  The one map I'm probably not updating at this time is Alaska.  For the last couple of years there is the "flooding" occurring in that area of the map.  When is is converted from osm to garmin things get out of wack.  As far as I know I'm the only map author who has kind of corrected this.  I finally figured out what was up and had to open about 20 raw data tiles in JOSM and make several edits/changes to the tags.  It was very laborious and I'm not up for doing it again right now.

Great, persistence paid off. 

As far as I know, only one mapset at a time.  You can do some overlays in several different formats, which it looks like what you have already done that were saved on your gps unit and then imported to basecamp.  As I was writing this I paused for a moment I opened base camp and then opened mapsource and did view two different maps.  So you might get a copy of mapsource https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

and see if that will work for you after resizing the windows.

A short time ago I downloaded (my work computer) and unzipped, open to the gmap and copied over and as seen in the snip displaying in BC.  Does your folder look like this?

As far as updating I'm really not sure, if at all.  I got into this a few years ago for my own use then all of a sudden I had a bunch of disparate maps of the US and Canada, made some improvements and began uploading them here.  As my workflow improved, knowledge increased I began adding maps as time and interest has allowed.  Relatively few people anymore are making Garmin maps (see the Garmin/OSM wiki for others) some are limited area one and done and a few crank out the whole world weekly and I found my niche here.  It's a labor of love and I don't ask for anything and I don't really have a plan or roadmap and am just content if others find my maps useful for their purpose     

The SEA Topo is using fairly recent data FWIW.




 

I have maps available in both .img format and .gmapi format for the most versatility, some mapmakers only offer one or the other.  You should be able to unzip the "Windows" version and copy directly the .img file to the Garmin folder on the SD card in your Zumo AND/OR copy the .gmap to your C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\ folder on your pc. You can view the map in basecamp and if you choose to, send the map to your Zumo 

To view in Basecamp on Windows use the "Mac" version, after extracting and opening to mapaname.gmap, mapset can be placed in the Windows C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps folder (may need to un-hide and create)

Down load the mac version which ends in gmapi after extraction, inside is the .gmap which you copy that folder over...make sure basecamp is closed when you do this.  Your not really installing it, you are putting it in a place garmin basecamp can find it

Earlier I downloaded both the "Windows" and "Mac" versions successfully with Firefox and a Chrome based browser.  We may need more information to see what's going on like:  Browser, OS, country, ISP, AV, folder permissions.  Are you getting any error message or does it just stop?  Let us know and we'll go from there.
