The version sent with the unit was 5.0.  The map was the only map I saw in the "maps" dropdown.  Looked for NC, pulled it up, saw the topo & contours.  Made by "Maps4GPS".  Don't get me wrong.  I highly suspect my own abilities, so I'm not knocking the product, and this website is the best thing going for a rabid walker like me.  I just burned my toes and am trying to get started again.  Thanks for your time & help!

General Discussion / mapping software wars

I'm new to this fun, and am computer-challenged, but I love my new Garmin 60csx.  Got it for a birthday.  Anyway, I loaded MapSource and eagerly downloaded a NC map from this site.  No lu ck.  Couldn't use it.  Deleted it & then had immediate problems with MapSource.  After nights of uninstalling all of it and reinstalling, I took time off from work and contacted Garmin.  After digging deep into my computer (over the course of an hour), the tech discovered that the one map I downloaded was the cause of the grief.  It was interfering with my (old) version of MapSource.  Admittedly, I installed MapSource, ignorant about required updates that also had to be downloaded.  Question:  I sorely want to dowload topos for my walking enjoyment, but am reluctant to repeat this fiasco.  Can anyone shed light on the problem and possible fixes?
