Title: Topo maps Canada
Post by: nowacc on April 28, 2013, 09:19:30 AM
I have been trying to figure out how/where to find some Canadian topo maps. I have been reading this forum and still can't make heads or tails of it. I did try a website found in this forum  http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/find.do?produit=cded  and found it easy to get to the area that I wish to make a map of. I down loaded a smal area, saved it, uncompressed it but still can't make Garmin Basecamp read it. I must be missing something, I thought I had it save in the correct format. Any suggestions???

That site is a Canadian government site which serves the 'raw' data. You need data in Garmin's format for BaseCamp to be able to use it.
Under search for maps go to Canada.  Ibycus Canada topo is the usually one most people use for Canada.  Note it is very large - one file for the entire country.

maps4gps gave you the easy answer, but if you want to make raw data into maps for Garmins, take a look at this:  http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-create-garmin-topo-maps/

Google or look here for Ibycus Topo Maps.  Ibycus has compiled all of the government data along with up to date road data into a single map set for the entire country.  You need to download via a torrent.  Due to the size, nobody has taken on the task of hosting it.
