I am using a Montana 600 with the downloaded Topo Spain. Appearance mode is "day", yet the map is black. All roads, contours etc are normal colour, but the map land is black. Is there any way to change this to white?
Can you post the link to the map you're refering to, I don't see a Topo Spain under Spain maps here.

The street maps CN Europe 2015 (Garmin) is normal with white land when I switch to it. I wonder if the map was made like this for some reason, but it is very hard to read?
Please check in settings if marine mode is turned off.
