New Garmin Firmware -- Safety

Garmin has just released new firmware for the OR, CO, and DA.  One decimal up from the bad firmware they released last week.  For the OR its 3.6.  So far, my OR is giving me out of memory errors on my East Coast to Calgary, AB and East Coast to Escalante, UT routing tests.  Haven't had any transparent maps up locally to check if the routing line shows under transparent maps.

My transparent maps are SUT Overlay (http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/282/ ) and a private one I made of Calgary.  The out of memory errors occur whether they are turned on or off.

Considering Garmin's recent upgrade history, it might be worth starting a "Last Tested Good Firmware" list.

This is why I rarely update any of my Garmin firmware. I had my Oregon for almost 2 years with the original firmware, and only updated it when they introduced the custom maps feature. I am several versions behind, and think I'll stay there for awhile.

A safe bet given Garmin's track record. I saved my 750 from bricking when the update that bricked so many of the 750s was released. Now I wait a couple of months after an update to see how that update worked before I would subject my own unit to the "beta testers are our customers" motto from Garmin.

I just downgraded to 3.4 from 3.6.  No more routing "out of memory" errors or routing line problems.

Interesting... I just upgraded my Dakota but haven't put it through the paces yet...

OR 300 3.6 "Out of memory" errors disappeared when I changed routing options from "Pedestrian" to "Auto/Motorcycle"

That is a drastic change.  From looking closely at the 2 images it looks like the resolution is decreased giving the washed out look (less contrast) and the increased brightness.  I would think that it would definitely make the screen easier to see in bright sunshine indirect lighting conditions.  Wonder if this was intentional to see if us users thought the trade off was worth it?
