Planning to order Topo 100k for Legend Etrex. Hunting for snowmobile trails in MN. There is no Topo for this area stops at WI, so looks like the one for the USA is only choice. Not sure of my storage amount. Can just the area of interest be loaded rather than the full down load from the DVD? Any help appreciated. Jim

Yes, the DVD will allow you to select only the area of interest. The downloadable version will not.

However, even if you wanted to install the whole US on your eTrex, and even if you have a large enough memory card, it isn't possible. Your GPS can only access a total of 2025 map segments - these are the smaller pieces that the map is divided into. But the entire US on the 100k topo DVD contains over 6000 segments.

If you wanted to have the whole US, then the downloadable or data card version would be better since they pack the same map into a much smaller number of segments. But in your case, the DVD will be the best choice.

But I suggest that you look at this map to determine if it's really what you want. Older versions were notoriously inaccurate. Use the online viewer here:

It does appear that the MN snowmobile trails mapset site listed here: http://gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/31/ is no longer valid/active.
There are topo mapsets available on gpsfiledepot which cover MN (and WI).
Have you check under MN on the opening webpage?

I think this is the same issue we discussed here. Maybe the GPSFileDepot pages for their maps should be deleted? http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php?topic=3274.0

Quote from: Boyd on February 21, 2013, 07:27:18 AMnone of the links on their site under "free maps" work.  None of the links under "support" work either. Then if you go to their forum, all of the posts are from spammers and have nothing to do with maps.  >:( http://gpssledmaps.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=c055b33edc00e810a61e4df954820e7c

Definitely some issues on that site.
