KMZ files (sorry, confused newbie question)

I've found some wonderful maps on this site, and managed to load them onto my OR 450 successfully - thanks for an awesome site, folks!  But I seem to have reached the end of my knowledge.  I tried to download a KMZ file (the Dartmoor one) into Basecamp.  It appears to be there in my "My Collection"  list, but nothing shows in the map display section of the screen.  I've tried messing with the magnification, detail level, etc, to no avail.  I also tried another kmz file, with similar non-results.  When I double-click on the name in the lower left-hand corner, I get a listing of about 90 jpg files.  I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but I have no idea what.

  Kmz will not show up unless you have an underlining map in the specific area. Ex.. I have a kmz of a local park, but it will not show up unless I select NY Topo map..

Yup, that worked - didn't even need anything fancy; just the default BaseCamp "global map" was suffificient.
