That's a nice new feature, and one that I would like. But I just bought the v12 upgrade in January, so I'll probably sit this one out for now...

Just got it installed, and the my CA BLM GDB isn't working.  I get the following message:

Unable to load overlay LandStatus.gdb.zip
This release of the GeoDatabase is either invalid or out of date.
ESRIFileGDBOverlay.cpp - 616
Version: v13.00 Beta 1
Build Time: Aug 14 2011 18:24:00

Site is:http://www.blm.gov/ca/gis/

Guess California Land Use will just have to wait...

Follow up, not all GDB files are supported.  Here's what Mike says:
QuoteThe ESRI File Geodatabase API only supports GDB files created with ArcGIS 10
and later. You get that error when trying to load GDB files from earlier
versions of ArcGIS. Unfortunately there's nothing that we can do to add
support for older GDB files until ESRI releases a library that can read
them.

When was ARCGIS 10 released?
It is likely to be some time for files in previous versions to be converted, if they ever are?

Also note the price is now $399 (another $50 increase).

Assume you mean GM.  Upgrade path is more expensive too.

The GIS guy at CA BLM sent me what he says is an ArcGIS 10 version of the CA Land Status, but it's not working for me.  I ftp'd the file to Mike.

I asked about Mapwindow GIS which I use and they indicate they are working on geodatabase support.

Don't hold your breath waiting for GM.  Apparently there's a lot of stuff that wasn't included in the standard ESRI published.

Mike says the problem with my CA Land Status file is apparently that there is a form of compression included in the GDB file, and the compression standard hasn't been published.

This problem appears to be fixed now.  You should be able to check it out in the second beta.
