Using Trasparent Maps

I can't figure out these transparent maps.  I downloaded one with hiking trails and installed it using the included wizard.  The map installs fine, and it there is no problem opening it with mapsource. The problem is, it is a trasparent trail map with no background. Its just a bunch of dotted lines on a blank tan background.  Using mapsource, is there a way to put the trail map over some kind of base map, so that there is at least a vague point of reference?

Unfortunately MapSource and BaseCamp will only display one mapset at a time.  You can open a 'base' map and zoom-in to the area of interest, then switch to the transparent mapset and the display area will be the same.  Not a very good solution, but perhaps a help.

Another solution would be using Basecamp with either a custom map (.kmz file) or one of Garmin's Birdseye products. These will be displayed at the same time as the transparent map.
