Map Making Support / Line types supported by Basecamp
December 07, 2012, 01:43:44 AM
I have found that line types 35 and 17 do not show in Basecamp (the lines show if I change the line type) others say that they do is there a list of types which do not show in Basecamp ?

It could be that the values in the levels statement do not concur with the levels in the style sheet MKgmap uses the next lower level if it does not find a match

I have minor roads dissapearing at some zoom levels in Basecamp (1Km to 300 m ) I have carefully checked my style file against the type file ( C ferrero style ) and can find no missing types in the type file, there are 3 different resolutions specified in the line stye so I thought it would be a missing line type but this does not seem to be the case any ideas ?

Map Making Support / splitter maxnodes for GB
November 16, 2012, 07:18:11 AM
I am trying to find the optimum value of max nodes for splitter for the UK does anyone have a value which does not give " area to small to split " errors in MKgmap or is this not the solution to this problem ?

Map Making Support / Re: Map background color

You can get Typwiz from http://pinns.co.uk/osm/typwiz3.html
which is a free download you can edit and create type files graphically it is very good in my opinion it also allows you to change the fid which has to match your tdb file fid

Map Making Support / bbbike and Geofabric extrcts
November 16, 2012, 01:22:43 AM
I have been using bbbike extracts and making maps with mkgmap with sucess but when I use geofabric I am having problems giving non visible forest areas (the pop up says they are forest) the type is 10109 for which there is an entry in my type file but they are not rendred in basecamp but they are in Qlandkarte is there a difference in the data produced by bbbike and geofabric ?

Map Making Support / Re: DEM height data in custom maps
November 08, 2012, 03:23:57 AM
Do  I use the same HeightProfile=Y in my options file for MKgamap, I had read that basecamp would use the contours but did not know why it always said no  elevation data available.
Thanks for the help

Map Making Support / Re: DEM height data in custom maps
November 07, 2012, 05:02:37 AM
I was interested in height gain in planned cycle rides so I didn't actually need it on my gps I have looked at OKmap which will use DEM data but it does not support OSM or garmin maps and QlandkartGT which opens garmin maps but does not seem to support DEM data is there any other software other than online or expensive which could give an elevation profile for planned routes or tracks.

Thanks for the help

Map Making Support / DEM height data in custom maps
November 06, 2012, 01:31:35 AM
How do you get height data into maps made from OSM.
I have some hgt and adf files for Great Britain but do not know how to incorporate this into a map made by MKgmap from OSM files. I have found tutorials for US maps but do not know what format the elevation data they use is.

That is very helpful I think I will try a dithered polygon as it should be possible to define a forest area without total coverage of the background which looks ok.
#11
Does anyone know how the draw order of polygons in a typ file interact with the draw order set for maps when more than one map is enabled on a gps.
Also when a map is set as transparent is it just the background that is transparent as I have polygons drawn on top of roads at the moment. I am trying to have forest tracks and forest areas overlaid over an OSM map and still have the roads show through.
#12
I have got my maps working now I found 2 problems first some how the maps were no longer transparent but I am sure that they did not work when they were trans parent and secondly I used img2type and found that the complete layer of rectangular tiles tiles that cgpsmapper produces (is this the background) were type 4B for which there was no entry in my type file for when I created a 4B type the maps worked. so you need transparent maps with a transparent background and a 4B tile type to get additional img files to merge with an existing map properly.

The maps work in qlandkarte ok with the polygons as coniferous forest type 50 and if I change the polygons to park type 17 they work in properly basecamp so is there an issue with certain types in basecamp ( I do have the FID and PID set correctly and compile with my own type file )

But I should still see the forest at higher zoom levels which I can't
#15
I have made 2 maps from Forestry Commission open data shp files in gpsmapedit one is forest blocks and contains only polygons and the other is roads and contains only polylines the map properties are the same for both maps with the data imported into layer 0 the roads are extended up to layer 2 and the polygons up to layer 3 I export each to an img file and then combine the two files to form a map for basecamp (I have tried mkgmap gmaptool and mstk all with the same result) but when I view the map in basecamp I see forest at 7km and above and only roads at 5km and under (I have made the maps transparent) so it seems as though the roads are drawn above the forest but are not transparent so how do I get this to work please I can't think of anything else to try.
