Title: How to download trail maps/logs to etrex20?
Post by: TravelLight on May 14, 2014, 08:48:06 PM
Hi, total newbie to the handheld GPS world (I have a car GPS and just use the default map). I just received my etrex20 and have a quick question:

How do I transfer files (like trail logs/maps on everytrail.com) to the etrex20? I don't have an account with everytrail yet but not sure if it's super complicated or relatively painless. Based on what I see on that site, it seems there are no GPS coordinators for the trailhead?

Are there any hiking trail maps/logs sites similar to everytrail, but with GPS coordinates for the trailheads, as well as tried-and-truth trail directions?

Thanks!

You would copy the GPX files onto the GPS in the Garmin/GPX/ folder, then open the track manager to control viewing and using them.  You can also open them in Basecamp, edit, add waypoints and such and transfer to the GPS from there.

There are various trail maps around depending on your location.  It is a big world....
